    After due consideration, I have decided to shut down the instance of !gnusocial at https://cybernude.org/ . It's broken and it appears unlikely to be fixable. I'm not happy about this--it's my only means of contact with most of you. But this is broken. And when stuff fails to function properly, I wonder what it's doing other than what it should. Which is to say, it becomes a !security risk.

    @bobjonkman with Diaspora, my experience is you have to get a lot of software versions right. It installs under a very specific environment. It's also much more complicated than !gnusocial with your web server functioning as a proxy. This is the kind of thing that's a step too far for me.

    As to switching from http to https, I think it *can* be done, but since !gnusocial now installs under https, I haven't had to try in quite a long time. !diaspora@oracle.skilledtests.com @stigatle @indi

    So now I get to figure out why, despite fixing #DNS, phpinfo() hangs. Really.

    I don't even know where to begin.

    And guess what? It turns out that some of the !gnusocial cryptography code depends on phpinfo().

    Logs are in a separate notice. But setting up a new instance didn't fix it, and subscriptions are taking forever (I'm assuming they hang), so I'm ditching that effort. @zoowar !gnusocial

    I tried setting up a new !gnusocial instance on https://n4rky.me . But things seem really awful there. Subscriptions never complete. And I still see in the logs:
