stig atle (stigatle@quitter.no)'s status on Saturday, 14-Oct-2017 06:07:08 UTC stig atle Good morning to you all, Saturday is the day Marlyn gets to sleep in, so I'm up early, grilled cheese sandwiches for breakfast today for me and the kids.
Weather is crappy today, so we'll most likely just stay home and enjoy a lazy day today :) -
stig atle (stigatle@quitter.no)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Oct-2017 20:53:10 UTC stig atle Yesterday and today I worked on adding the 'mix' shader to my render plugin.
So here I mix a metal material, with a 'matte' with diffuse texture, using a checkermap texture as 'mix'..

Nice to be home a lone once a while!
Here our kids are sleeping, Marlyn is upstairs watching TV, and I'm in the basement listening to music and coding a bit, been a nice day so far! :) -

stig atle (stigatle@quitter.no)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Oct-2017 18:25:37 UTC stig atle @throgh Oh, and I also work on #Yaics - https://gitlab.com/stigatle/yaics/ -
stig atle (stigatle@quitter.no)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Oct-2017 18:16:41 UTC stig atle @throgh It's a render plugin for 3dsmax, https://stigatle.no/index.php/2017/09/25/luxmax-3dsmax-2018-opencl/
I integrate 'Luxrender' ( http://www.luxrender.net/en_GB/index ) into 3dsmax as a internal render plugin. Been working on it for many years, that's why I'm not able to put it away.
I do have Linux on all my other machines though, I only go to windows when coding.
I also work on other 3dsmax projects, mostly a exporter for game engine 'Maratis':
https://stigatle.no/index.php/maratis-3dsmax-exporter/
And blender stuff as well. (As you probably know by now - I love coding on stuff ;) ) -
stig atle (stigatle@quitter.no)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Oct-2017 18:08:42 UTC stig atle @throgh Yeah, I do too, just this one personal project I'm not able to put away yet ;) -
stig atle (stigatle@quitter.no)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Oct-2017 18:00:32 UTC stig atle @throgh What OS are you compiling it on btw? :) I love compiling stuff from source.. :) -
stig atle (stigatle@quitter.no)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Oct-2017 17:59:49 UTC stig atle @throgh I'm installing windows on a separate machine tonight. I've been dualbooting for a bit due to software development, but now I'm tired of that, so I decided to install it on a lowend machine I have, and just use that for the windows stuff I develop. Let's me have Linux on my main workstation at all times, and no need for dualbooting. Other then that I'm just listening to music etc. Kids just went to sleep. -

stig atle (stigatle@quitter.no)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Oct-2017 14:27:11 UTC stig atle It's now much easier to run OpenSuse Tumbleweed when you have nvidia. I'm dependent on Nvidia drivers and cuda for my development.
This now means that I can give tumbleweed a proper test as my main OS for games \ development etc.
I love installing os'es, set them up and test everything I usually do on them.
I'll give it a try this weekend if I have time for it.

stig atle (stigatle@quitter.no)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Oct-2017 14:07:23 UTC stig atle @tekk Sorry for taking so long for a reply, I've been at work.
So, I think there is one major difference, and that is that when using youtube you do not 'sell' the content at all, it's like painting pictures, take them to farmers market and show them to anyone for free, then farmers market puts ads next to the paintings they feel like they want to have ads on, and then you get paid from that. -

stig atle (stigatle@quitter.no)'s status on Tuesday, 10-Oct-2017 17:47:29 UTC stig atle Marlyn is out of the house today, so it's been dad time! Kids are fed, book has been read out loud, now they sleep, and I can code a bit :) -
stig atle (stigatle@quitter.no)'s status on Tuesday, 10-Oct-2017 17:44:33 UTC stig atle @shoju What I mean is that it's not a 'right' to get money for your videos uploaded to youtube. They are a company that can set the rules for what they want to put ads on.
Why is it a problem if they decide not to let you earn money for video X?
Is it a problem because money is expected? is it a problem because 'you' use a 'free' service and they set the rules? is it a problem because people would not make videos unless they get the revenue from ads?
And to answer your question "Why should their content be given away for free", that's the thing, they do not *have* to use youtube, but they do - because they expect to get money from what they upload. They could easily fire up their own webserver and host it there ad-free, but there is not any money in that, so no one does it, they just complain about youtube, and do nothing on their own end it seems. Complain about a free service not giving them money, feels like beggars on the street complaining about not getting money. -
stig atle (stigatle@quitter.no)'s status on Tuesday, 10-Oct-2017 16:14:14 UTC stig atle After I got kids it still feels weird to touch 'normal' bread and other food items containing gluten that I prepare for them, I avoid that kind of food like the plague due to having Coeliac disease. It's a really weird feeling, like touching something full of viruses or something like that, like pulling something moldy and rotten from the trash, and touching it with your bare hands.
