that's fine, no one person is going to be able to solve all of the world's economic and political and social problems

mynamebaka ๐ (xj9@sunshinegardens.org)'s status on Saturday, 23-Dec-2017 23:30:55 UTC mynamebaka ๐ @ThisIsLeeloo @bob my response was, "its a known issue which i doubt will be solved by destroying the economic system and throwing out the Good Parts that have made it the dominant economic system on the planet"

mynamebaka ๐ (xj9@sunshinegardens.org)'s status on Saturday, 23-Dec-2017 23:26:06 UTC mynamebaka ๐ @ThisIsLeeloo @bob yes, that's why saying "lets destroy capitalism" is a retarded statement. you can't just throw out the whole thing. its an evolutionary process.

cars are also the most dangerous transportation mechanism we have ever invented, probably need to ban cars too

mynamebaka ๐ (xj9@sunshinegardens.org)'s status on Saturday, 23-Dec-2017 23:22:13 UTC mynamebaka ๐ @ThisIsLeeloo @bob i do agree that some business practices are unsustainable, but destructively replacing the system with something else that is completely untested is ..well, good luck.

mynamebaka ๐ (xj9@sunshinegardens.org)'s status on Saturday, 23-Dec-2017 23:20:40 UTC mynamebaka ๐ @ThisIsLeeloo @bob now, i'm not saying that we have a perfect system. it has flaws, people suffer, and that isn't a good thing.
the problem with "capitalism is evil" or however you decide to phrase the sentiment (anti-capitalist or whatever), is that you blind yourself to the advantages that it has that have made it the dominant economic system on the planet.

mynamebaka ๐ (xj9@sunshinegardens.org)'s status on Saturday, 23-Dec-2017 23:16:35 UTC mynamebaka ๐ @bob @ThisIsLeeloo i'm looking at the global trend, there is obviously going to be a distribution of progress towards food security.
the point i'm making is that the global trend is positive, when capitalism is so huge and everywhere. if capitalism was pure evil, wouldn't everything be getting worse always on a global scale?

mynamebaka ๐ (xj9@sunshinegardens.org)'s status on Saturday, 23-Dec-2017 23:12:18 UTC mynamebaka ๐ @ThisIsLeeloo starvation is not a good argument against capitalism, its actually rapidly diminishing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starvation#Starvation_statistics
in most of the places with the highest rates of starvation-related death, i would blame colonialism for their struggle more than i would capitalism. even so, the situation in terms of food supply is getting better fast.

mynamebaka ๐ (xj9@sunshinegardens.org)'s status on Saturday, 23-Dec-2017 23:09:46 UTC mynamebaka ๐ @ThisIsLeeloo this is actually a problem in non-captialist systems too. there will always be competition over finite resources, even if you eliminate markets. if the demand for some resource is higher than what you have, somebody will have to go without. markets solve this problem with prices. its actually a pretty resilient distributed system.
-
mynamebaka ๐ (xj9@sunshinegardens.org)'s status on Saturday, 23-Dec-2017 23:07:15 UTC mynamebaka ๐ @ThisIsLeeloo the way you phrase "resources are scarce" is an over-generalization. nobody is saying "all resources are scarce", some resources are more difficult to extract, some *products* are more difficult to manufacture than others. "scarcity" means, there are less units of a commodity than it would take to satisfy the demand for it. this is what drives prices, depending on the ratio of supply:demand things get more/less expensive.
