even China with the Great Firewall can only (occasionally) restrict Mastodon usage to within the country and a year ago 33 active Chinese instances were monitored from within Europe.

in medium/long term it may be advisable to spread yourselves out amongst instances hosted in other European countries (not just mastodon.social) and be aware of followers only posts and hiding search engine indexing as that makes it more difficult for bad actors to monitor you..

@syndikalista I guess you've read (and maybe been inspired by) Ivan Illich? His 1970s ideas remain valid even today!

150 000 bees 🐝 are stolen in Belgium, and thefts of these creatures and hives are increasing there (its also happening elsewhere in Europe, in most cases commercial rivals are suspected of the crimes (it needs specialist skills to shift entire full hives!)
