I just read another news article about why mastodon didn’t make it and is dying. It’s very sad to hear and probably explains why I have to keep adding more server capacity to handle all the people quitting mastodon.
FYI - major media is covering the twitter to mastodon migration. We are far from out of the woods. I have a 4 servers with 16 core/32 thread, 128GB ram, 4TB nvme ssds sitting waiting for me to configure them. help is coming...
Interesting study that finds people who oppose scientific consensus are generally less knowledgeable on a given topic, and apparently unaware of their ignorance, and overconfident in themselves. It’s basically quantifying the Dunning-Kruger phenomenon in novel ways.
I personally believe there is a common misunderstanding of the scientific method, what theories are, and what “research” is.
Of late, it seems like there’s also a concerted political movement that makes going against scientific consensus something of a defining characteristic of a party, at least in the US.
Hopefully some day we can get to a point where science isn’t partisan.
Today was a challenging day, and work and personally. I noticed my dog was walking a little off and chewing her foot. Took her to the vet. $800 later, I learn her hip joints are shot. Now need to figure out why. (Hip dysplasia, bone infection, bone cancer). And she has a tumor that likely needs to be removed.
