I saw this today. I’m curious as to what it actually is. Any ideas?

That, plus the EU copyright thing, the death of net noot, GDPR, and the rest of the shitty internet stuff that has been ongoing just leaves me remembering this protest sign.

Every time I check the status of my Gemini order, I get a little more disappointed with Planet Computers.
For the entire month of April the checker said "Your unit went in to production in April and will be delivered in May.
This database is updated weekly. Last update April 7th"
Now it says "You unit starts production 2 May and will be delivered towards the end of May.
We will update the database on a weekly bases.
Database last updated: 2nd May 2018" -

My nephew has an ipad.
He asked his dad how to write games. His dad didn't know. His dad asked me how to write games on an iPad. I told him not to bother.
My nephew asked me how to learn to write games.
I gave him a raspberry pi and a copy of pico 8.
Now he writes computer games.
He couldn't do that on his iPad.

Please recommend to me more people to follow who talk about music and old technology and vintage scifi and maybe text adventure games?
It's hard to find new people on a small instance, so boosts and replies are welcome and encouraged.

Okay, let's recap:
1. We have to make media
1.5 we have to talk about the media other people make
2. We have to Archive the media we make
3. We have to make software
4. We have to archive the software that we make
5. We need viable alternatives to the web and the internet
6. We need to be smarter about the ways we use the internet
7. I may end up looking for work in the next 6 months, I will be moving 600ish miles. My ability to do The Work will be impacted by this. -

To fight Centralization:
- Own your data.
- Archive your data online and off.
- Use decentralized services like Mastodon and Matrix and whatever whenever possible.
- publish to places that aren't facebook or medium (and if you must, only use central services for syndication.)To fight user hostility:
- Use ad blockers and privacy badger
- If you can get away with it, use no-script or similar when possible.
- Stop using, or reduce your use of, platforms that profit from treating you poorly. -

The internet is not the only way to archive things.
The internet is not the only way to distribute things.
The internet is not eternal. It may not last the rest of our lifetimes. It may be replaced. It may die.
Have a backup plan.
