So early in this year I saw that I was beginning to develop a serious problem, and decided to stop drinking, except for when out in public with friends. Well, today I made the decision to stop drinking altogether. (Just wanted to put this down in writing in case I need to refer to this later.)
@flyingsaceur Btw, thought of a game that matches your criteria: Thief! - 3 conflicting fractions (Keepers, Hammerites, and Pagans) - Outsider perspective (Garrett) - External manipulator (Trickster) And Thief has actual dialogue, and it's very good.
@flyingsaceur Yes, it works incredibly well. A small team crunching a year for the win. As with most things, it's a miracle that it worked so well, and even more of a miracle that it is exceptional. As with most things that are "genius" it is the accessibility that counts. While playing, the entirely of it feels effortless and natural. And that is its true achievement.
@flyingsaceur In the words of Marc Laidlaw, "I still get questions about stuff I spent 5 minutes on 25 years ago from people who thought about it for 25 years". It's all very vague and open to interpretation. It's not that deep. You just read it into it. None of the elements you've mentioned are actually all that well defined.
@flyingsaceur Alright, let's not get carried away here. Games, possible. A lot of adventure games had great writing though, and 1998 had some pretty great ones. Grim Fandango, anyone? Movies? Come on now. Books? Definitely not.
"Uh... It's probably not a problem,... probably, but I'm showing a small discrepancy in... well, no, it's well within acceptable bounds again. Sustaining sequence."
@root42 Yeah, they wanted a control scheme that allowed one to be able to keep shooting the same direction while turning and walking backwards. It works, but it's confusing.
@root42 No, that's too much effort. I doubt it's Mode X because that would be too early on. It only scrolls a chunk at the time horizontally, but the game seems to still be running every frame. And it does it in all 4 supported video modes.
@vampiress Well.... I've now watched the series far enough where I realize that I probably should have watched a bit more before declaring my satisfaction with sticking to the original material. This is a bit more interesting than I assumed.
Oh my god, just laughing out loud at the Scott Pilgrim anime. I love the movie so much that I forced myself to forget that it really didn't do the books justice. No more!
