Vivo en Denver y Los Nuggets es mi equipo favorito.

@jmanumeza Odio Los Lakers. Por lo tanto, estoy animando a los Grizzlies. 😁
The State of #UX in 2023 just dropped.
What are people's thoughts/reactions?
For me, it speaks to something on my mind a lot these days, which is the way capitalism's demand for ever-increasing growth is coming down hard on us.
The artificially depressed prices that companies like Amazon and Uber used to gain market share is over. Now that they're established they're cranking up the exploitation to pay back their investors.
We're seeing this with social media platforms too with more aggressive advertising.
The more profit-maximization, the worse our "user experience"
I hope these two trends continue so that the difference in experience is so stark that people continue to make the shift from
Twitter -> Mastodon
Figma -> Penpot
WhatsApp -> Signal
Chrome -> Firefox
Gmail -> Thunderbird
GoogleDocs -> CryptPad
Exploited Workplace -> Unionized
Capitalistm -> Cooperatives
there is an encouraging counter-current running, which is the growing focus and investment from #OpenSource and #CommunityTech projects on #UXDesign
When we design and resource projects for community and sustainability, rather than endless profit, we have tools that actually meet our collective needs.
#CryptPad
#Drupal
#Firefox
#Mastodon
#PixelFed
#PeerTube
#PenPot
#Signal
#Thunderbird
#Tor
are just a few community tech projects succeeding because they value design
I'd love to form more of a community with other designers, especially those focused on #UX and who share #Libre slash #OpenSource values.
If you do too, respond to this thread and we can see where it goes from there.
(boost appreciated!)
Anyone know the status of Salesforce working with ICE?
I know there were campaigns targeting them in the past, are those still active?
I'm struggling to find recent info on them. #CloseTheCamps
Here is the technology policy @iwoc adopted. It could be instructive to these conversations happening on how to politicize the tech choices we make.
https://incarceratedworkers.org/resources/iwoc-technology-policy
do people know of good resources that break down the politics around technology and how tech choices can't be seen as simply a means to an end?
Audience would be radicals who still blindly use Google Suite, Facebook, Slack, Salesforce etc because their primary concern is "getting the job done."
These resources should also have an intersectional analysis b/c the tunnel vision free software purism response is a show stopper for me.
Watching Dries Buytaert, founder of #Drupal talk about #JavaScript and the future of Drupal's front-end.
@iona @ntnsndr Not a fork, but rather a distribution ecosystem.
A distribution is Drupal Core plus contributed modules, customizations and themes pre-configured. So when installing you get features out of the box you won't find installing a plain Drupal site.
By ecosystem I mean we are building our first distribution in a way that future, more specific distros could spin off of.

@hinterwaeldler sure thing - Drupal is a content management system, a tool for creating a website. It comes with some functionality out of the box, but oftentimes a site needs to extend it with customizations. Drutopia is a version of Drupal with the most common features for activist groups pre-configured. More info at www.drutopia.org/about
