@will__ @vanecx @scully @laura And there is no monopoly possible while there's still phones without #RestrictedBoot (RB). Having #UEFI with #SecureBoot (SB) is still better than RB, found in most phones.
This also differs #OpenSource — pro RB — from #FreeSoftware — pro SB (be it with option to disable or not), or insecure #BIOS.

So suddenly there’s a lot of attention around email and it’s exposing how many people in the web community still use Gmail. Like actually trust all your personal information and communication (and that of your potentially marginalised or vulnerable contacts) with Google. 🤮
There are a lot of hard problems and lack of alternatives when it comes to rights-respecting technology. But email (as imperfect as it is) has a fair few affordable alternative providers. Small change, big difference.

Maybe I’ve not been saying it loudly or frequently enough for the last however-many years…
Privacy is not a luxury.
Same with accessibility. Neither are luxuries, they’re life-sustaining rights. And you’re unusually privileged if you’ve not had to care about either.

Don't know if you've already seen these, but maybe you might find these threads interesting. They remind me our #PostJS reasonings.

@passthejoe Don't ever rely only using the already standardized priority levels, automated delivery and read reports. #Google's #Gmail has no such #SMTP features for most useds.

one of my issues with jquery is the way it Doesn't Crash
like when my code has a mistake, i actually want it to fail, by default, and tell me why it failed so i can fix it.
jquery's style is more to silently smooth it out.
and it might make sense in some cases, but for development it's a waste of time.if do this you get a type error
> document.getElementById('inexistent').style.color = '#666'if you do this you get nothing
> $('#inexistent').css('color', '#666')it might sound nice to unify the idea of "one object" and "many object" but it might actually be a terrible idea
i think jquery is onto a nice idea with their accidental attempt to make javascript declarative, but also that they ended up making something worse than vanilla javascript somehow

about #mapillary
Through the years I always failed to contribute more to Mapillary
Because my phones were crappy or becaue of lazyness or dragging my feet
The lesson: do not. DO NOT engage with vc funded stuff

#Facebook just bought #Mapillary.
Move your images to a #FOSS *community run* project instead! How? Simple:
1. Download your images: https://github.com/gitouche-sur-osm/mapillary_takeout
2. Upload to #OpenStreetCam:
OpenStreetCam.org3. Enjoy giving a giant, fat middle finger to #Zuckerberg. 🌻 🌈 🌻
4. Boost and have a nice day!

So Mapillary, the "Street View" part of OpenStreetMap (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Mapillary), based on crowdsourcing people's photos for their "open data" project.... has been bought by Facebook 🙄
