I just made a 1000€ #donation to #Framasoft.
They offer #FreeSoftware solutions without #SurveillanceCapitalism for just about everything.
Since the #SocialDistancing started I made two videocalls with their #Jitsi instance and that saved me from feeling completely isolated. Unfortunately free telecommunication services are completely overloaded atm, but that's why it's so important to #DonateToFreeSoftware projects, especially right now.

@3rik @fsfe Thanks for putting #XMPP first, it offers most things people are used to particularly if both clients and servers implement the yearly "Compliance Suites" XEPs, such as XEP-0423 (for 2020) and additionally XEP-0077 (In-band Registration) for easy registration. For remote desktop I think any VNC client+server or clientless (web-based) server (e.g.: Guacamole, https://directory.fsf.org/wiki/Guacamole ) would do the trick.
