1) I hate that some professors force you to use our university forums and every time I publish a post my legal name will be right next to it.
2) Had to use my legal name when requesting some FSFE promotional materials and their system presumes that the name you used on that form is the name you would like to be called when they address you in any occasion.
😬 -> that's me, dying inside.

Quando o Bolsozero promete tolerância zero em relação ao desmatamento ilegal, omite um pequenino detalhe: seu governo está se empenhando para legalizar boa parte do desmatamento ilegal.

@alpine_thistle @hisham_hm On the other side there is a mix of #OpenSourceInitiative / #OSI and its followers, but also some which incorrectly label things as "open". #OSI supports #DigitalHandcuffs such as #DigitalRestrictionsManagement / #DRM and #RestrictedBoot ( e.g. some #Android and modern computers have it), FSF doesn't. #OpenSource is a development method favoring lax / non-copyleft licenses and so sacrificing freedom of the software. FSF accepts #SecureBoot.

@alpine_thistle @hisham_hm "free/libre software" is a movement that, in capability-based theory of political philosophy, gives the user control over his own material environment, also taking care to give these freedoms and *preserve and spread* then legally. According to https://media.libreplanet.org/u/libreplanet/m/stallman-nussbaum-and-sen-putting-freedom-in-context/ , https://media.libreplanet.org/u/libreplanet/m/free-software-free-society/ and https://journals.openedition.org/rccs/pdf/5462 . Thus strong and "or-later" #copyleft license with community enforcement is advocated ( #AGPL first then #GPL second).

@rosnovsky @hisham_hm @cwebber To be fair, #GNU isn't a synonym for "free/libre software". It is free/libre software, but there is no requirement for a software to be under the umbrella of GNU in order to be free/libre. GNU was the first to *document* the movement.

Projects like #DOI (Digital Object Identifier) and #Handle.net have created ways to permanently link to documents on the web, even if their actual URL changes. But like #Webcitation.org and #Archive.org, both are centralized systems, requiring layers of bureacracy and ongoing funding to maintain. #DataShards has been proposed as a way to automate this, in a decentralized and even offline way:

I was trying to pet the cat with one hand. This seemed to work until she saw the other hand sitting idle and wanted me to pet her with it so I changed hands. She seemed happy until the saw the first hand, now sitting idle and wanted to be petted by it. This back and forth continued until I was eventually petting her with both hands at the same time. I guess being petted with one hand isn't enough.

@hisham_hm @mariusor I'm also an issue reporter on occasional #GNU #FSDG issues found in some of the few system distributions approved by @fsf as being free/libre (because those have a stricter guideline than simple freedom of the software, thus also requiring commitments from the community around the distribution), besides being a freedom of the software reviewer for the #FreeSoftwareDirectory. The FSF lists approved system distributions.
