Exciting times! Yesterday there was a stunning 24 new apps added to #FDroid! Together with 33 updated existing apps.

#Fennec got a new icon (changed by #Mozilla).

@matrix's #Riot got a visual overhaul including a new icon!

And #newpipe update is published! Pull down to refresh your index.

Google somehow changed the license terms of the Android SDK a few days ago. As the licnese hash is programatically checked by the SDK-tools, this means hat unfortunately builds are failing all over the place. (Not just for #fdroid but in peoples CI systems as well.)

#Newpipe 0.14.2 can't play YouTube videos anymore. Downgrading to 0.14.1 seems to work for the moment. (Need to uninstall the latest version first.)

The problem is fixed upstream in version 0.15 which will be on fdroid in 1-2 days.

If you want to get some great app recommendations you really should follow @fdroid_lurker!

Also make sure to take a look at the backlog of that account.

So what to do:

1. Does the app look legitimate? Are the permissions it declares (AndroidManifest.xml) reasonable? The library dependencies (build.gradle) look okay?
2. Does it build with fdroid build <appID>?
3. Is there at least a description and Summary present in the metadata file? Also author name, website, donation information where applicable?

We need reviewers for new apps submitted as Merge Requests to #FDroid. There are over 40 pending MRs:

There are some key things to keep in mind if you want to try to figure out how to do truly anonymous tracking of installs for F-Droid:

* The anonimity of the data must be proven, not assumed. It only takes 33 bits of data to uniquely identify every person on the planet. There are so many cases where organizations put data on the internet that they believed had been "anonymized", only to find out it was trivial to deanonymize with the right techniques.

We are looking for more maintainers for specific apps in #FDroid. Here is a list of some that would need some love:

* GNU #Ring
* #VLC
* #Fennec
* #Vespuccio
* #GhostCommander
* #Linphone

If you know how to build software in general, no particular Android experience is required. This can be picked up as you go :)

All of those already have working recipes available but all of them also have quirks that require manual action when updating.
