@dirb @Mogsie @dirb I'm always amazed at how people come to this conclusion, not seeming to realise that the game has always been about making it as inconvenient and cost-prohibitive as possible to bother with you in the first place.

@dirb @Skoll3 as one pleroma dev pointed out, it's closer to the gnu social experience--it's not really anything new. it wasn't long ago when smug was still on gnu social, and we'd unknowingly barge into DMs because there was nothing stopping us from seeing those posts so long as they federated our way. The privacy settings people seem to hold so dear are an illusion at best, and I'll admit to respectfully disagreeing with the premises of their existence--people should be using a separate, actually secure mode of communication if they want DMs with privacy. -
