    @xj9 @nik @rin @succfemboi we are working with Erlang Solutions as their MongooseIM (fork of ejabberd) had some features we needed to make this work.

    I *think* the basic stuff can work with ejabberd but I haven't tested yet.

    @xj9 @nik @rin @succfemboi We already have embedded converse.js working with auto-login using your pleroma auth stuff so don't waste too much time here.

    We do need help with making it play nice with PleromaFE though because there are some bugs with it taking focus, etc.

    @nik @rin @succfemboi If we're going to conquer social media with libre/free/open platforms we need to provide features and interactions in ways that people want (not just twitter-style microblogging) and also build upon the best solutions that the open source community has spent decades refining.

    After we've made something the masses want to use -- then we can start looking at the merits of purism.

    - E2E encryption
    - Reactions (thumbs up/down, emoji responses)
    - Typing notifications
    - Stickers
    - Carbon Copies (messages synced to all devices)
    - Inline media

    That's a monumental task. We can get all of that for free right now by leveraging XMPP.

    OMEMO will give E2E encryption, and we can hook into your followers/following and automatically control your roster and it is intended to work with your blocks etc

    @lain yes, but the water and energy usage allegedly has a lower carbon footprint because the processing of the trees into pulp, making paper, transporting paper around the world, etc etc is large
