There are two spots where #Google, #Amazon, #Facebook, #Apple, #Microsoft (and others) are most vulnerable. You have to attack them where it hurts them the most.

1) Is their public image. Make them look as shitty as possible, they deserve it. Ideally, make them *deny* things that make them look good. This is the high art of pissing someone off. Claim publicly that Google is stopping AI research or whatever. You will win.

2) Don't use their services. Seriously. Stop. Stop. STOP. Delete. Forget.

Unpopular opinion:

I don't think we should make free and federated replacements for *every* proprietary social media site, just because we can. It's not a no-brainer.

Yes, we would get rid of corporate surveillance, but a free and federated version of site X can still be highly addictive and distracting, plus enabling all sorts of abuse if not designed properly.

I don't want to curb your enthusiasm, but please give this some more thought before jumping on the bandwagon.

@bob I think by now the Bitcoin network has surpassed the energy consumption of Denmark and Switzerland, by conservative estimates. It's real, look it up. So there is a huge scaling problem, and it continues to grow exponentially.

It's been 6 weeks and 3 days on Mastodon for me now. Never seen so many inspiring, critical, thought-provoking things in one place before. Can we also please talk about the need to MITM the encrypted message first before one can launch any #efail attack? Thanks to ubiquitous TLS, this seems to be the much more difficult feat to pull off these days (unless you have considerable resources). The cost of targeting and MITMing a given user is gigantic.

Telling the general public to uninstall GPG extensions is really silly, they should do the opposite. And install updates and disable html, ffs. Everything else is just FUD 😩
