violencia fisiológica

i’ve been thinking a lot about software stewardship and software cooperatives lately, in the context of taking responsibility for the craft as a class of craftspeople. i’ve got an essay on the subject on its third draft so maybe i’ll publish it soon but since im on the bus maybe i’ll just blither about it for a bit.

it’s one thing for workers to control the conditions of their toil but another for craftspeople to take responsibility for their craft, and we need to do both.

Un compañero de estas redes ha tenido una idea brillante, hacer una web que analize el código fuente en busca de mierda de gugle y si no la encuentra que ofrezca el sello que he creado... me encanta la idea, esto debe hacerse si o si!

"if you don't like where you are, go make your own instance" is uncomfortably like "if you don't like your neighbourhood, build a house somewhere else" -- it presumes a whole shitload of privilege and resources.

Instead, it's much better to point people to the list of instances, e.g. the list of essentially free housing they can trivially move to. Just think before you say "just do [enormously difficult technical thing] lmao" like it's eating ice cream.

Just thinking about how insane slowness of dynamic CMSes pushes people into the arms of CloudFlares and Google Shields of this world makes me sick in my stomach.
