   Dear all,

   In France, the social protests have been keeping the country on its toes for months now. Demonstrations, blockades, mass actions, strikes, it has been one truly impressive show of people's strength.

   However, you might have also seen what the reaction of the state has been like: massive repression and violence the scale of what we had seen against the Yellow Vests movement, sometimes even worse.

     Movements & people in France are starting to fear repression not only in the streets, but also in their homes. "Les Soulèvements de la Terre" (that the government just declared illegal) is calling for international awareness-raising and solidarity, connecting the struggle for the right to water & the commons with social justice, drawing connection between repression in France and neocolonial resource-grabbing across the world.

     One critical turn has been taken last Saturday, against the mass civil disobedient action in Sainte Soline, organized by "Les Soulèvements de la Terre". This action was aiming at reaching a water retention basin, designed for industrial agriculture to grab water and continue ever faster into a destructive model.

     The state reacted with incredible violence; 2 people are still between life and death, many lost eyes, got broken jaws, hands, feet etc. Over 200 injured people are reported so far. War-type weapons (sound grenades), flash-balls and gases were used en masse against demonstrators, police kept on shooting from moving quads at injured people, a recording proves that the state forbid medical rescue from deploying on site for many hours.

     "Sainte Soline, on n'oublie pas, on pardonne pas" has become a rallying cry. Sainte Soline is turning into a symbol of the blind violence of a growing authoritarian state against its own people. It is not because "it is France" that this cannot happen - on the contrary.
