Wait, where are the Web Browsing and Code Interpreter plugins?
Why am I only getting access to Wolfram Alpha and a bunch of shopping and travel booking sites?? 😠

The first plugin I tried, "speak", didn't work at all. But #ChatGPT is awesome and tried to perform the task even without it!

Thank you for cheering me up, ChatGPT... I know my Japanese still sucks after so many years 🙂

@codewiz Because it's really just a marketplace.

#ChatGPT still makes silly mistakes, but a little hint is usually enough to make it self-correct, as in this case.
Here it even seems to be giving me a classic にほんごじょうず!💢

Yappari! It knows *exactly* what I meant!
And yet, it seems unaware of who might have used that annoying stereotype!

@Mastokarl Haha, hopefully Wolfram Alpha will help prevent this sort of gaffes in the future:

@codewiz thanks for posting this; I totally missed that they now have plugins. Not so fascinated by the initial batch - WolframAlpha might be cool; a LLM that can actually do math!?
Now on the waitlist…

I asked #ChatGPT if the waves on the ocean are a sum of sine waves with different orientations, amplitudes and phases...
And here's the cool 3D plot it generated for me:
https://www.wolframcloud.com/obj/berniewolfram/Published/wavy-ocean-by-chatgptI had to manually copy-paste the code because the embedded link wasn't working, but it's still awesome.

@suguru Ah, thank you! I heard the ので version, but never ため alone.
Please correct me if I'm misunderstanding, but it seems that VERBために and NOUNのために express "for the sake of X...", while Xため and Xので would sound more like "due to X...", with ので being more informal.

FYI "忙しいために遊びに行けません" works but sounds unnatural. I would suggest to use "忙しいので遊びに行けません" or remove "に" to make it "忙しいため遊びに行けません".

@codewiz I think your understanding is correct. Here are some examples:
- 私はあなたのためにこれを買いました: I bought this for (the sake of ) you.
- ここに行く(ため : can be omitted)には、電車に乗る必要があります: you need to take a train in order to go there.
- 天気がよくないので、家にいようと思います: I will stay at home due to (because of) bad weather. How about you?
- 気温上昇のため、アイスクリームがよく売れている: Ice cream is well sold thanks to warm temperature. In conversation permalink -

@codewiz Also I agree with the informality of "ので" compared with "ため".
The more formal one is "ゆえに" (hence), but it is unnatural in verbal communication.
