     @codewiz I didn't like Doom Eternal nearly as much as Doom 16, but I still give it props for being *NATIVELY* compatible with Linux. An old Id tradition that still rules.

     @GabeMoralesVR The last Doom game I played before this one was Doom 3, and I didn't like it as much as Doom Eternal.

     My favorite Id Software games remain Quake III and Enemy Territory.

     @codewiz waaaaaaait, you didn't play Doom 2016? Oh man, definitely check it out, ESPECIALLY if you love Quake III. It's a damn shame the multiplayer is dead, because it's the closest we've come to a new Quake III Arena.

     At least Quake II is thriving right now, though.

     Even with a modest CPU, the
     #AMD #Radeon RX 7900 XT easily renders this scene in 3440x1440 at 100Hz.

     All this works out of the box on any distro with the opensource #amdgpu #vulkan driver.

     So why are Linux users willing to spend more and suffer with #Nvidia proprietary drivers? Brand recognition, I guess? 🤔

     @deepthaw Indeed, I also couldn't see much of a difference with #Cyberpunk2077.

     That was a while ago on Windows, since at the time the RT option was still disabled on Linux with #Proton / #DXVK.

     @codewiz I need to play through it again now that I have a card that can do raytracing. The brief time I spent testing it I didn’t see a difference :/

     @codewiz it's brand recognition 100%. AMD cards have been first class on Linux for almost 10 years now. The reason? AMD pays a great group of developers to work on upstream Linux drivers full time.

     Just search the kernel for commit authors @amd.com vs @nvidia.com and the picture is pretty clear.

     @Joy It's a lot better than dual screen for gaming, coding and browsing.

     The desktop is wide enough for 3 terminals side-by-side or 2 browser windows with plenty of extra room for sidebars and vertical docks.

     I use a curved ASUS monitor. Takes a few days to get used to, but now I wouldn't go back.

     I didn't have to do it, perhaps Proton Experimental does it?

     By the way, RT will be enabled by default in mesa 23.2 which will be released soon:
