jezra (jezra@pleroma.jezra.net)'s status on Wednesday, 20-Dec-2023 21:37:06 UTC jezra from the command line, I can NOT open a file on a mounted drive using `firefox /path/to/the/fucking/file`, but if I use File > Open and then use the File Open dialog to select /path/to/the/fucking/file the file will open but the path in the address bar is file:///run/user/1000/doc/f7de3ceb/file
What gives?-

Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Wednesday, 20-Dec-2023 21:36:56 UTC Bob Jonkman Hm. I use sshfs to mount home directories from other computers all the time. sshfs seems to work better than connecting to other servers with the file manager.
I gave up on Ubuntu and derivatives a while ago. First it was the Unity desktop that drove me to Mint's LMDE with MATE, but since my servers were running Debian I've switched my laptops and desktops to Debian with MATE.
And to think I was deeply involved in our Ubuntu LoCo at one time...

jezra (jezra@pleroma.jezra.net)'s status on Wednesday, 20-Dec-2023 21:37:03 UTC jezra @hobbsc For this particular issue, I have a few options:
1. have root mount the drive somewhere in my home directory
2. install Firefox as a deb and not a snap
3. use sshfs to mount the drive in my home directory -
hobbsc (hobbsc@social.sdf.org)'s status on Wednesday, 20-Dec-2023 21:37:04 UTC hobbsc @jezra if you insist on using Ubuntu, perhaps this will help? https://github.com/popey/unsnap
Snaps are a big reason why I chose mint the last time I distrohopped. I hope to move my servers off Ubuntu eventually, too. Just unsure of what I'll use instead. Been considering opensuse again but it's been years since I used that.

hobbsc (hobbsc@social.sdf.org)'s status on Wednesday, 20-Dec-2023 21:37:06 UTC hobbsc @jezra is your firefox install a flatpak or snap or something containerized like that?
