@dosnostalgic Also 86-DOS is technically a DOS, I guess? If there's a fine line between DOS and CP/M then there's *no* line here. 😌

@indigoparadox There isn't a fine line. In 1980/1981 you couldn't run CP/M on an 8086. That's a pretty clear line.

@bhtooefr @dosnostalgic To the extent there was an ABI, it was different. A program written for one probably wouldn't run on the other. It wasn't until later that stuff like Concurrent DOS and the NEC V20 and its hardware emulation made the line blurry (IMO). If you wanna draw a temporal cutoff, though (which is fair enough), then yeah they were pretty distinct.

@indigoparadox @bhtooefr I'm only kidding, as I am not a fan of rigid definitions in the first place. But yes, in my mind, if a platform is stand-alone (in a way) then it's its own platform. If its compatible with another platform out of the box, then we can debate various semantics.

@dosnostalgic @indigoparadox and wasn't CP/M-86's ABI different from 86DOS/MS-DOS 1.x/PC-DOS 1.x's ABI? (even if the 86DOS API was based on the 8080 CP/M API) -

I know some people think it's against the law for a Russian like myself not to know how to play chess, but I can assure you Russia has the same ratio of people who don't how to play chess as any other country. ♟🤔🤷♂️
