    Hey resident #openscad experts!

    I'm looking for a way to deform 3d shapes. In this particular case I have a rounded cuboid, that I want to bend upwards at a certain angle and position.

    Is there any (more or less generic) way to achieve this with OpenSCAD (and maybe BOSL2)?

      @chybnej

      That was my hunch as well, but apparently I struggle with basic high school math 🤣

      @fribbledom translate + rotate + hull?

      @schaf

      That was an approach I tried, but couldn't quite make it work. Maybe I need to try that again.

      @fribbledom i think theres no way to do sheetmetal work naturally in openscad. what you can do is something like this:
      • left part: intersect the piece with a cube the size of the part and length l to the start of the bending line minus r*alpha[radians]
      • right part: same but on the other side, translate, rotate, -translate using the bending center
      • middle part: on position "l", you create a projection and rotate_extrude it

      @schaf @chybnej

      I tried taking a slice of the shape and rotating it in a for loop, applying a hull over each iteration. I struggled with calculating the correct offset and rotation for each iteration however 🙈

      @chybnej @fribbledom you would fill the whole space in between the parts, instead of bending it, or is there some trick i missed?

      @Profpatsch

      You're probably thinking of FreeCAD!
