   Here's the thing: Instances with very disparate social views can and do coexist fine in the GNU social and wider fediverse ecosystems, but they have to WANT to coexist, and many of Mastodon's authoritarians abhor that which they cannot control.

     @maiyannah @jjg you can onion route to a private instance, but I'm not sure about routing outgoing messages and federating on TOR. Is there a socks5 proxy setting?

     @maiyannah @jjg I didn't know that, so it might be worth investigating for the "onion only" version of !Freedombone. The might be some hardcoded clearnet stuff too. I think some Google maps stuff was left in gnusocial (I removed the rest) and that will surely be clearnet.
