      @Laurelai it isn't! I recommend turning to the archives of _Scientific American_; in their glory days, when they ran a column called "The Amateur Scientist", cloud chambers were a popular thing to construct, operating both by Wilson's method (sudden expansion of a chamber) and by the "diffusion" method (using dry ice to maintain the cloud layer.)

      @Laurelai both Geiger's counter and Wilson's cloud chamber work on a very similar principle: deliberately creating an unstable physical system, one that is very far out of equilibrium and therefore subject to instantaneous change in response to a small stimulus

      @Laurelai @mona Wilson's cloud chamber was the first cosmic ray detector, which is usually protons, or large particles so it is likely only going to detect neutron radiation & alpha, not gamma, or beta,
