   A machine in which you cannot run a conventional browser like firefox smoothly will be good. I want to be free of distractions. But should be capable of displaying pdf files generated by LaTeX.

     So the GPU, which requires proprietary software is required for booting process. Hence, you cannot avoid using non-free software.
