Make that imbecile a martyr though, and everyone and their dog will rush to see WHY that person was martyred and silenced, and try to defend them. Even someone who couldn't hold their own on a conversation is suddenly a leader of masses. Milo would have been laughed at universally 20 years ago.
Demonizing someone too much, despite how bad they are, turns them into the woobie and people start sympathizing.
