I absolutely love seeing this senator getting knocked down a peg for her sexist comments. The term is uncalled for, least of all in a professional setting:

@pschwede I think his response to outward sexism from an elected official is appropriate. Not sure he embarrassed himself so much.

@pschwede Do you find mansplaining to be a sexist and inappropriate term?

@pschwede Well then that would explain your perspective. To those of us who find it rude and sexist it would appear very much justified how he reacted in a setting like that.

@pschwede What he said or how he said it might determine if he is worthy of contempt or not but would not change the contempt for what she said.
If we agree its a sexist term (which we dont, so we would have to debate that point first).. Then her saying it is inappropriate regardless of what she was responding to.
Its no different than the unexcusable use of the word "nigger", if someone use that in a derogatory way towards another person then it is never acceptable regardless of the reason. I would say anytime we deal with prejudice language towards a sex or race this holds true.

@pschwede why would anyone find the word holocaust racist? How is that related, I dont follow.
Regardless as I said where we disagree is basically in how offensive that term is, which is fine. We can discuss our views on why that is racist or not, but it will largely taint how we iew the video and what we conclude about it, so its really the only aspect we disagree on in principe.

It takes a simple lithmus test to see why something might be sexist, simply apply it to other groups and see if the racism shows...
Would telling a woman every time she gets condescending that she is "womansplaning" be sexist?
If everytime a black person got uppity at you and tried to explain something and you called it "blacksplaining" would this be racist?
To me anytime I use the pattern above on virtually any race, sex, orientation, anything, it comes across as rude, childish, and prejudice.

@pschwede So you are ok with ther term "blacksplaining" using the same logic? As long as its used to label some rhetoric its fine?
