Still trying to get my 35" monitor shipped to Los Angeles...

Japan Post said the box is too big (180cm linear size), while FedEx International Economy costs more tjan buying the same monitor from Newegg... including free delivery! 😩

    What should I do? @benoit @globalc

@globalc @benoit I did exactly that (email the Tokyo office with a list of things I'm selling), and all I got was 20 emails asking if the free foldable bike was still available.

Sucks to sell something from far away.. but maybe leave it to someone there for a low price so they sell it for you (and keep the difference). If you were still with google, an email to a local list might also bring up someone willing to buy.

@penguin42 @codewiz @globalc original packaging foam is quite good to survive the worst deliveries... Especially Dell monitors, it seems they're packed super heavy in foam.

@codewiz @benoit @globalc Surely it's easier to sell and rebuy; what are the chances of a good monitor surviving a transcontinental ride anyway?

@benoit @penguin42 @globalc I still have the original box, and it has *already* survived one trip across the Pacific ocean:

@Matthieu Fun fact: that curved BENQ screen had to be shipped from Seattle, because it was way more expensive from Japanese retailers, and still too expensive even if I bought it directly from Taiwan, where BENQ is headquartered 🤷

@almn76@troet.cafe Yes, and this begs another question: why are Japanese consumers willing to open their wallets and pay more for things? If this only happened with food, we could dismiss it as obsession for quality. But last year I wanted to buy a BENQ screen (produced in Taiwan), and I ended up importing it from the US. Even with shipping and customs, it was still cheaper than buying from Japanese retailers: https://www.reddit.com/r/japanlife/comments/9ehnmp/high_prices_on_imported_electronics_and_computer/
