Yeah dry skin during the winter months sucks, but come on, these greasy hand creams are disgusting. I hate that feeling on my skin and don't dare to touch mouse or keyboard for a good 10 minutes, like I just ate a pack of fries.

    Better solutions anyone?

@fribbledom have you tried either coconut oil or almond oil? You only need a bit, and I find it absorbs pretty well. Doesn't leave me feeling greasy (though, I would still wait a bit before touching the keyboard etc.) Olive oil might also work, but the scent is strong.

PS: If you touch your mouse or keyboard while eating a pack of fries, we need to have a serious conversation.

@fribbledom I'm not sure how hard it is to get outside of Sweden, but Försvarets Hudsalva is my go-to skincare product, and a tube sits by my keyboard all winter.

Developed for the Swedish armed forces in the 1940s and still massively popular today, it's an excellent not-particularly-greasy treatment for dry or scarred skin and lips.

Persistent rumour has it that it can also be used to waterproof boots, fry dinner, or in dire emergency be eaten straight out of the tube. It tastes of vanilla.

@fribbledom Yeah, I agree that touching the mouse with greasy hands from the cream is disgusting. But it's more disgusting when your hands are so dry that they bleed. Happened to me in winter in Germany.

@fribbledom there are creams that absorb very quickly, you would only have to not touch your mouse for... 20 seconds or so. Give those a try?

@fribbledom get a pack of cotton gloves and a big old tub of the most intensive moisturiser you can find. Before you go to bed, slather your hands in the moisturiser. Don't even worry about rubbing it in, just put the gloves on over the top and go to sleep. In the morning your hands will be soft and the moisturiser will be gone. Repeat once a week or so, or as often as necessary.

@fribbledom Agreed. I just put a heavy lotion on my hands at night (best time for healing, too).

@fribbledom I use a very light moisturizer and give it a couple minutes to soak in. I also usually put on a heavier moisturizer at night before bed, not during the day.
