So far I'm finding Russian way more difficult than Japanese.

Tagomago (tagomago@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 06-Feb-2022 19:24:16 UTC Tagomago @chiasm I believe it's the grammar, declinations, etc. Plus, words are longer so it's harder to read and learn them? Tbh, I haven't gone deep with kanjis yet, only a few, so it may change soon.

If I understand correctly, they tend to drop the "is" word out of the sentence--"My brother chemist" instead of "My brother is a chemist"--is their word order also backwards from English, like Japanese?

Tagomago (tagomago@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 06-Feb-2022 20:02:55 UTC Tagomago @chiasm No, the order is the “standard” subject-verb-object. Yes, they tend to drop that verb, and also most of the articles. But there are weird uses for some particles, weird constructions and declinations galore, so the curve escalates very quickly. Japanese has a higher entry, but then it's more straightforward... until you have to memorize hundreds of weird symbols, yeah.
