     It is a real shame that #science is behind paywalls. This is something that i#AaronSwartz also understood perfectly and the bullshit legal avalanche poured over his head. I wish there was a safe way to help #scihub .

     Scientific journals get their material for free from researchers, they quality control the material for free by other scientists (a.k.a peer review), and at the end put the material on their website.

     The scientific journals charge thousands of dollars from the researcher to publish their work (yeah, they get the material and also charge for it as if it is a nuclear waste), and then also charge every single reader about 30 dollars. On top if that they are responsible for over 50% of spam emails in academia!

     Imho academia needs a massive reform on how they do things. The current system is corrupt, inefficient, broken, and in many aspects inhumane and unethical.
