I once had an advisor tell me I had steel balls. He meant this as a compliment, but I can assure you I don't have testicles, steel or otherwise. Nonetheless, you get kicked between the legs a lot in leadership positions. The kicks that always catch me off guard are from people I've helped or who claim to be allies. This happens often, yet it remains my blind spot. It just always surprises me that people think this is the best way to get ahead. It's a cruel world if you don't play by these rules.
I really enjoy mentoring others. I also enjoyed being a boss (for the most part). I am one of those individuals who feels comfortable making decisions (for work at least). You'd be surprised how many managers/leaders are indecisive and frustrate the process for others. Maybe I am just confident about what I know/don't know and not afraid to make a mistake. I also find it comforting that many of the top CEOs are introverts. This is probably because reflection is more important than sociability.
@tagomago I believe you are versatile. I like all those genres too, but lean towards indie folk and punk most of the time. Though I listen to classical and jazz in private 😲
"When you take a step back and look at the playing field of an algorithm-controlled society and how it influences people, the view is absurd. It’s not inclusive, it’s not equitable and it’s not in any way attentive to human wellbeing." - @axbom
@m2m@axbom I keep a LinkedIn account so professionals can find me, but I never open it unless I get a message. And when I do, I avoid the home feed which is mostly just self-promotion anyway.
I left Twitter and the other social media networks a while ago and don't miss them at all. As for YouTube, I can't quit it. But I only browse with an ad-blocker and sometimes logged out, so it doesn't create a problem for me either.
Neko Case has a new compilation album out with an interesting selection of her songs. If you don't already own her recordings, than this is a great introduction to her #music for an excellent value!
I ate some of that potentially contaminated PB before it was recalled. I am doing fine, but threw it away anyway. It reminded me of a lecture in my Biochemistry class in college titled "Eat and Die." Basically, that the act of eating (metabolizing) is what causes our cells to age and die. This is probably why fasting across cultures has been linked to longevity. But I wouldn't encourage it because lack of nutrients could kill you too. So eat pray love...and die, friends.
