"@ in Ascii Land"
In case you can't tell, the S are evil snakes 😲
I'll probably end up using emojis for the actual characters.

Of course!
@fribbledom Please keep an ASCII option! People could then have a go at running the game on all sorts of limited devices.
The best part is that you already have a level-editor installed on your system!
Open a text-file, add # for solid blocks, S for snakes, K for the key, and G for the goal.
@ will define the starting position of the player.
Fancy creating a map? Send it to me, I'll share the game sources with you and we'll pick the best ones for an initial release!
Open-source, of course.
@fribbledom memories of "Ladder" on CP/M, a Donkey Kong clone using only ASCII and CP/M's rudimentary terminal support
Ladder has been the first video game I've ever played. On an ITT3030 CP/M machine back in the early 80s 😍
@fribbledom heh. I played it on an NCR Decision Mate V.
My first was the 1979 PETSCII dungeon crawler "Dungeon" - https://archive.org/details/dungeon40
Gotta catch 'em all!
@ecsaln @fribbledom maybe a /S to show the end point of a path to repeat? And I saw a later Mario level - have you considered asterisks for collectables?
@fribbledom would be good to also be able to define the speed of snakes' movement, and their initial direction of travel.
