My favorite proposal is "Automate and systematize internal processes", something I've always thought was lacking in KDE as well as other open source projects.

At Google, CI infra and test automation made me so much more productive as a developer.

My least favorite proposal is "Making #KDE #NEON the official KDE distro".

Maintaining a fork of Ubuntu LTS with newer KDE packages seems like a big distraction for the KDE community. They should either work with #Kubuntu to deliver the latest Plasma desktop directly there, or pick another *existing* distro that's willing to ship up-to-date Plasma packages (Fedora? Arch? Pop!_OS?).

@codewiz Is that actually a fork? Isn't that just a case of starting with LTS and no DE installed and building KDE packages?

@penguin42 Well, it's really an APT repository replacing all the KDE packages in Ubuntu 20.04, and installation ISOs pre-configured to use it:

      https://neon.kde.org/faq#what-is-neon

They still haven't rebased Neon onto Ubuntu 22.04, which to me is a sign that this sort of uncoordinated "semi-fork" spells trouble for users.

@penguin42 Not if they re-brand it completely to eliminate all trademarks owned by Canonical .

@codewiz Hmm I hadn't realise they hadn't rebased yet; that's not good. tbh the repo on the side is fine; the ISO I'm less interested in, but actually doing an ISO would require permission of the distro on which it's based wouldn't it?

@codewiz That's probably non-trivial; I mean I know the CentOS^WRocky guys do the same, but that's a well trod path.

@penguin42 Some time ago, Canonical tried to claim copyright over Ubuntu *binaries*, claiming that the opensource licenses cover only the source code.

It seems a very weak argument, and hopefully they've quietly dropped it.
