Is it really that bad in Uruguay? I was under the impression Uruguay was a role model for Latin America in terms of government transparency and accountability, as well as having a large middle class. -

Is Uruguay in danger of adopting an American style of society? I've always felt Canada was a decade behind the US in terms of social attitudes, which has me a little reluctant to move back there until the US sorts itself out. -
Santiago (santiago@mastodon.uy)'s status on Tuesday, 04-Oct-2022 14:25:10 UTC Santiago @Scott The western countries including latin america have a goal that is to reproduce capitalism and american way of life. This is empowered by right-wing governments with the express help of the US. Back in the 60s and 70s there were a bunch of dictatorships organized by the CIA and supported by the US that included murderer of elected left-wing presidents, like Salvador Allende in Chile. The elite classes in latin america wish to reproduce the american way of life based on racism, inequality, private property and vague values like family and exaltation of other like authoritarianism and militarism, take a look at Bolsonaro in Brasil.

Is Uruguay in danger of becoming as fractious socially and politically as the US currently is? -
