I don't normally enjoy this framing of the topic, but I'm having a weird day, so here goes: What were some of the worst *retail* DOS games that you have played? And I specifically mean games that one would buy in a big box in a store for $40-60 back in the day. #DOSGaming#Videogames#PCGaming#80sVideogames#90sVideogames#VideoGameHistory#MSDOS#IBMPC
@dosnostalgic Xenophage: Alien Bloodsport. Saw the box, saw the “Apogee” logo on the back and then some screenshots. Told myself “this gotta be an absolute blast”.
@dosnostalgic came out in 2000 so not a Dos Game. But Amsterdoom by Davilex Games comes to my mind right away. I think every Davilex game falls in this category. We bought them for being Dutch but also out of curiosity, if they were really as terrible as the magazine reviews
@zorrobandito It's funny how far we've come in tech regarding computing speeds in regards to decompression. Today we stream full HD video at speeds that usually don't exceed those of a 2x CD-ROM.
@dosnostalgic the crushing shallowness of the early CD-ROM games was a dark time and few games illustrated this better than Mega-Race. Crappy rendered sprites on a crappy lo-rent, lo-res FMV. The future was not looking good.
@demodulated@dosnostalgic I had a semi graphical Spiderman game on my Apple //c where you're in a highrise and have to do... something. I always got stuck trying to get past Sandman and/or the second floor up.
@dosnostalgic I bought an Incredible Hulk text adventure in the 80's. You start the game tied to a chair. I couldn't figure out how to proceed past the opening scene. Yes, I tried "get angry".
