#Meta, antes conocida como #facebook es brillante en movidas de publicidad y lavado de marca. Recuerden que meta cambió su nombre en el medio de los facebook leaks y fue perfecto para ellos, nadie habló o habla de todo eso.

#threads es la oportunidad que vieron (o le pidieron según las notas que hay al respecto) de competir contra twitter. Y acá se bifurcan los caminos.

Una es la competencia con el Edgelord in town Elon, esto se empareja con la imagen que le están dando a Mark hace un tiempo ya, por eso todos estan comiendo/hablando de Elon, Mark y la pelea.

Otra es la pata técnica, cómo hacen para ganarse ese espacio? Fácil, seguir el discurso de Jack y del resto del equipo de bluesky, pensar en abrirse a protocolos y jurar que es para darle libertad a los usuarios.

Por qué ActivityPub? Es porque piensan en los usuarios? No realmente. Sirve como publicidad? Sí, se meten en l discusión del momento "protocolos" Es porque quieren venir a romper todo? No, es porque está a la mano y es el más fácil de integrar a un desarrollo nuevo, por supuesto no van a elegir su competencia directa 'at protocol'.

Hay algo más importante que nadie menciona nunca en estas charlas, lo discutimos en el @opio en los últimos programas que hicimos. Facebook siempre estuvo ahí, facebook fue uno de los precursores de este tipo de redes sociales, al menos coorporativas. Siempre colaboraron de alguna manera u otra con el W3C. Por eso tampoco parece tan ilógico que elijan ese protocolo.

Una vez más #meta gana en la atención que se le da, gana en PR, hace orbitar hacia ella y sus decisiones, siempre nos va a dar peso del lado positivo de la balanza para dejarnos pensando si lo que está haciendo está bien o mal

:facebook: ☣️ FLOSS.social was launched in the (now small) Mastodon signup wave at the end of March 2018, as a result of the #Facebook Cambridge Analytica scandal.

Since then, #Meta has shown little to no sincere interest in reforming their culture of abusing their users' human rights of privacy.

As a result, there is no reason to suspect they'll be any different if they join the #Fediverse, and our instance will respond accordingly.

This week that means #Facebook but this is by no means limited to them.

:facebook: :instagram: I pre-blocked Meta's (read #Facebook's) new project named #Threads (aka Barcelona aka #Project92). Namely threads.net and threads.instagram.com (that's a redirect to threads.net). If other URL's become available I will block those too.

This doesn't mean we will not vote about this issue anymore. This is just to make sure Meta (read Facebook) will not catch us by surprise. When all details about Threads become available, even if that means they first need to go live, I will start the poll.

There is over a decade of precedent that Facebook will not have users' best interests as their guiding principle but rather profit margins, if it joins the Fediverse.

We at tech.lgbt have long held the belief that corporation owned instances are a threat to the core of the Fediverse: freedom for users to be themselves and to be a part of their communities. The 2010s saw the loss of online freedom when the majority of the Web was consolidated into a few destinations, and Facebook entering here could lead us back to centralization. Furthermore, NDAs for server admins will constrain our sovereignty online by binding us legally from disrupting their business.

We are not products. We are people, and we do not welcome Facebook in this space.

I have a lot of concerns about Meta coming soon to the Fediverse.

I fear what this means for the exchange of information that will inevitably happen between us and them.

What it means legally,
what it means technically,
but mostly what it means ethically.

I also fear for the culture we have developed here.

I have deleted my Facebook account 5 years ago and never regretted it. I do not have any other accounts with Meta. For many reasons, I intend to stay away from this unethical corporation as much as I can.

I do not know what my instance intends to do about this, but personally I will block entirely any instance(s) controlled by Meta. I might also lock my account if necessary. This isn't about the people on there, this is very much about the practices of the corporation that controls it.

I sincerely hope their presence will not break the Fediverse :geodesic:

I hope we will stay strong and fight together for the better world we have started to create ✊:heart_cyber:

The only measure in which this news can be viewed positively is that the decision confirms the #Fediverse as a threat to the social silos. Let's keep it this way. Do not trust #Facebook. Do not forget that just last week #Instagram tried to block the #joinPixelfed tag <https://mastodon.social/@pixelfed/110338112401101688>, lest people became aware of the existence of the world outside, a world that still has the appeal of early-days IG, and not subject to the threat of enshittification.
