Dadurch dürfte es in Zukunft Schwierigkeiten geben, wenn OpenSSL-Code in Softwareprojekte unter GPLv2 oder in den OpenBSD-Fork #LibreSSL übernommen werden soll. Derzeit ist auch unklar, wie das OpenSSL-Projekt mit Code umgehen wird, dessen Autoren den Lizenzwechsel abgelehnt haben.
