Question for chatroom folks out there: Are there any active arts communities out there in #irc, #xmpp, #matrix, or other federated chat platforms?

I did some looking but turned up almost nothing, all I can find are a handful of places full of AI and/or NFT bros, and places that are connected to art but not really *about* it (opengameart, communities around art production software, etc)

Discord's packed to the gills with art chats, I find it unlikely that there's not at least *one* elsewhere.

Just realized that have friggin' NINE #messengers on my smartphone.

I really miss #MirandaIM and all those #MultiMessengers back in the days. Might have to build one #matterbridge to rule them all.

#Matrix running out of money is a strong reminder of why #XMPP is the future.

I can tell you confidently that Matrix takes in a LOT more $$ than XMPP does every month. Matrix went the silicon valley route of throwing their money around on expensive domains (matrix.org, riot.im, vector.im, etc..), overloading their servers before the software could handle it, advertising aggressively, and trying to convince everybody they had the "better product" when it wasn't and still isn't fast enough for real-world use. (5-10 mins to join a room LMAO)

Now they've burnt the candle at both ends, and its only a matter of time before the ship goes down or is bailed out for another 5-10 years by investors. Maybe I'm missing something big here, but I *still* don't get the hype around #Matrix when #XMPP exists.

@torproject Will the upcoming WhatsApp support channel for #Tor at least be bridged to #Matrix? It would be nice if those who have privacy concerns but still need help could use a safer protocol/platform.

@feditips @mastohost For maximum #privacy, consider using a centralized messenger aimed at reducing #metadata, such as #Signal or @threemaapp. While federated services like #Matrix or #XMPP are great for independence from big tech, they're not a good choice if you're trying to hide with whom, when, how often etc. you're chatting.

Free over 200GB media - purged everything that was remote media and everything up to one year ago locally.
