Trisquel 9 Ready For Development And Testing
For @jxself
From the weekly Freedom Fridays development meeting in #trisquel-dev on irc.freenode.net we have news that Trisquel 9 aka "Etonia" can now be debootstraped normally, so you can build your own Trisquel 9 development/testing environment. Rubén installed it on a laptop for a test and got as far as to have a working desktop environment, so all the basics are in place. He had to use a Trisquel 8 kernel, though, as that is still missing.
If you don't want to install the Trisquel 8 kernel on Trisquel 9 there are also mine, at https://jxself.org/linux-libre/

@jpmens I also like #Atom feed since it focuses on content, not style, and disallows script auto executables to be fed in the news item. I would like to find a feed aggregator/reader that uses the same #database / #db format as #Liferea so I can manually copy-paste updates of my read/unread/important list file across #Trisquel and #Android / #Replicant.
@sirgazil I like #GNU #IceCat, #Trisquel's #Abrowser and also #Hyperbola's #IceweaselUXP.
#Lubuntu are switching from the discontinued #LXDE desktop to its replacement, #LXQT, from 18.10 onwards:
https://betanews.com/2018/07/30/ubuntu-linux-lubuntu-old-lxqt/
They have also announced they are dropping support for 32-bit PCs from 19.04 onwards:
https://betanews.com/2018/12/21/lubuntu-linux-32bit/
So 18.04 LTS is the last version of Lubuntu that can be recommended for use with older PCs. #Trisquel 9 will be based off 18.04 LTS, and I presume #Mate will remain the default desktop. Trisquel 8 is what I run (for now) on an ancient 32-bit Acer netbook
@strypey as far as I know, #Trisquel's #MATE uses #GTK and doesn't require 3D.
@NeoTheThird Besides, they don't just remove non-free parts. They also think of usability in most limited resources to new users of not so old computers. For instance, contrary to #Ubuntu, #Trisquel uses #MATE by default since the non-free distribution #Ubuntu opted to use an environment that requires #3D to function.
@NeoTheThird #Trisquel was reviewed and is officially accepted as #FreeSoftware system distribution: https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.html .
@NeoTheThird #Trisquel (although not available for mobile yet) is an attempt to make #Ubuntu #FreeSoftware and newby-friendly. https://www.trisquel.info/ . I try to participate in the meetings at #trisquel-dev on IRC chat.freenode.net, or if I can't make it, I contribute to their repositories or through their mailing list.
Today there will be a #Trisquel development meeting. Join #trisquel-dev IRC channel on chat.freenode.net to know the time. #FreeSoftware #SoftwareLivre #SoftwareLibre

@alimiracle Perhaps here and also share the publication in mailing lists, IRC channels such as #libreplanet and #fsf on chat.freenode.net and also some general free software philosophy discussion places like #Trisquel's freedom-misc mailing list/forum and #Hyperbola's philosophy subforum.
@TheEnbyperor @sophia I do agree that some GNU projects are composed by butches, but I participate in some others that are not that way. Particularly I go to #Trisquel English support forum (trisquel-users mailing list) and general free software philosophy talk (freedom-misc), and also participate on #FSF and #UNESCO's Free Software Directory and meetings (both the website and meeting hours can be seen at https://directory.fsf.org/ ).
@cwebber Ugh... As much as I grew up with that series, I don't foster or support it in any way for activist reasons. I think there are some good #FreeSoftware games, non-extensively, counting only the ones available in #Trisquel's default repositories and ignoring the unfortunate lack of strong upgradable #copyleft for some of the games, I like: efp (needs NES emulator), heroes, fillets-ng, enigma, 7kaa, widelands, neverball, freedoom, colobot, openclonk, kiki-the-nanobot, wesnoth
@aral I agree that lots of work must be done. But all software, even non-free ones like #Windows, #macOS, #Android, #iOS, #LineageOS, #Ubuntu, #Fedora, and so on. It's relative to which computer pieces/components you have and what you want to do. What I like about #FreeSoftware system distributions such as #Trisquel, #Replicant and many others listed at http://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.html , is the possibility of being empowered to fully control of my material environment. #WTF #WhatsTheFix ?
Presumiendo mi #MacBook 2.1 con #Libreboot y #Gnu / #Linux #Trisquel #Ñ
