Running Arch here on mine, but should pretty much work across the board. No really exotic components in that machine.

@brandon Nah, nothing's really broken in that regard. Just after an Intel ME upgrade, you suddenly can't suspend the machine anymore, without it immediately resuming. One power cycle solves the issue. It's just never happend on this particular machine before.

@brandon I don't think it really had anything to do with Linux. I guess the BIOS update left the machine in a weird state. I've seen that on Windows machines before, as well.

I've yet to open it and take a closer look at the battery (and everything else). It certainly misbehaves during charging already, so that's the next step.
Probably need a replacement for it (and maybe the SSD).

Beehive 0.3.2 is out!
We've added a bunch of new hives in this release, so you can now connect your bees with Prometheus, Discord and TravisCI!
Also: a new template helper for JSON data!
Get it here:

To be honest, this has never happened in the past 2.5 years that I own this machine.
It did happen to me on a MacBook before though ๐
I guess unlucky combination of BIOS / firmware and kernel update. Just upgraded to kernel 5.1.2 and the suspend seems to work fine again.

That's a DELL XPS. But frankly it hasn't ever happened before in 2.5 years. Guess the lesson learned here: check such things still work after a BIOS/firmware update.
Upgraded to kernel 5.1.2 and suspend seems to work fine again.

There is and it didn't. The kernel toggled the CPU thermal protection on and off, tried to suspend the system and failed... just printed out a little call trace. Like, every 30 seconds for the past 16 hours.

The mind boggling thing: I'm typing these toots on this very machine. It still boots, it still runs. I guess I may have to replace the SSD and battery, but I may have been lucky otherwise. Could have ended up with a nice little LiPo fire as well.

Did a BIOS & firmware update on my notebook yesterday, to fix a bunch of security issues in the Intel ME.
Closed the lid afterwards, put it back in its bag and connected the power plug because I needed it fully charged for today.
This morning I realized it failed to suspend after the BIOS update and managed to heat up to over 90 degrees in the bag :blobugh:
A ton of thermal errors in the journal, 1039 smart errors on the SSD, 20% battery capacity lost, a smell of molten plastic in the air.

Ich muss gestehen ich nutze inzwischen fast ueberall systemd-boot, und habe eigentlich keine Probleme mit. Aber wirklich Fan bin ich irgendwie von keinem Boot Manager bisher ๐
Was ist dein Favorit?
