Phewww, mastodon.social is finally back. I was starting to question my life choices here.

If you're brave enough, you can replicate this breadboard 6502 computer in a weekend. Maybe.

If you've enjoyed my little Go crash course and think it may help others getting to know the language as well, here's also a reddit post for it. Spread the word with me đ

More than I expected, certainly. It's also a lot more exhausting than I anticipated đ
The positive feedback and interaction with the people in the chat makes more than up for it though! People kept asking great questions đ

@thomasfuchs Heck, I didn't even notice that. Clearly I'm a kid of the 80s đ

Friday night, time to learn some programming!
I streamed a Go-programming crash course for everyone interested in learning the language this afternoon, and a bunch of people joined me over on Twitch. Thanks everyone, that was tons of fun!
If you missed it (or want to re-watch the edited stream), the video is live now!

Holy sh*t! I had #1 in the garden as a kid! I had no idea how much money my parents spent on this thing đ˛

Judging by this catalog, 1977 must have been a rather sad year in global toy sales đ
Thanks for the snapshots, really digging them!

I can't believe you still own that old Quelle catalog! I used to spend hours as a kid browsing through them (& the Otto catalogs, too).
Any chance you can take a snapshot of the toy section? đ
Oh, and you don't happen to have some catalogs from the end of the 80s / early 90s, as well?

Glad to hear you liked that quick introduction!
I'll certainly do a few more videos in the next couple days, so stay tuned!
In the meantime, I can highly recommend checking out the Golang Tour and Playground:
https://tour.golang.org/
https://play.golang.org/Should have mentioned these links in the stream, really đ

Yep, will have to cut it down and edit it a bit, though. Links will be posted here, of course!

I think that's rather reasonable behavior. It doesn't break your API clients just because a new member has been added to the JSON server-side.

Sorry that I missed that one!
If there's no "City" key in the JSON itself, then it would _not_ return an error. It tries to fill the struct to the best of its abilities. j.City wouldn't get touched in such a case and simply remain an empty string.
Similarly: if there's a "City" in the JSON, but no "j.City" member, it would simply ignore that and move on with the next value.

Interested in learning programming with Go?
I'm doing a quick crash course with some live coding over on Twitch in about 20 minutes!

So the most common feedback that I got from my recent live coding videos, is that people are intrigued by Go but don't know the language yet.
I feel like there are already a bunch of videos on that matter on YouTube (obviously), but maybe I should do a little #golang programming tutorial? Would you be interested in watching such a thing?

Can't watch this right now, but consider me intrigued already.
