@timorl Largely because the need isnt reallt there for most people. It costs money to implement and it isnt making anyone money when they do so in most cases.
@timorl Incorrect, the term alt-right was coined by Paul Gottfried who himself is not a member of the alt-right community. He used it as a descriptive term in its full form "alternative right" which as a descriptive term is also applicable to those on the left.
For Chrismas I wanted to share this very relevant quote. Especially at a time when the USA is ethically defunct due to left and right extremism and attacks this message is of particular relevance.
This quote is from the end of Lincoln's Getty's Burg Address:
In your hands, my dissatisfied fellow-countrymen, and not in mine, is the momentous issue of civil war. The Government will not assail you. You can have no conflict without being yourselves the aggressors. You have no oath registered in heaven to destroy the Government, while I shall have the most solemn one to "preserve, protect, and defend it." I am loath to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.
Best yet when pressed for a reason or example they basically said "Well he has #entrepeneur as a hash tag on his profile, isnt that proof enough!" and everyone was like "umm, no, it kinda isnt" and we all laughed :)
long story short, I am now "STEM Lord" though you can call me "Sir. STEM" if you wish. (their insult for me I guess, I dunno I like it!)

@ae 99.13% of democrats voted for impeachment. 100% of repulicans voted against impeachment.
I'd say that is effectively showing partisanship and polarization I mentioned. Moreover it shows that of the small group of 2 congressmen who demonstrated bipartisanship by voting outside of party lines 100% of that group voted against impeachment.
Keep in mind while the impeachment does appear just to be a ruse used to correct for the fact that Trump was dominating the polls at the time I really dont mind that aspect in isolation I might give them a pass. What is the most telling to me is once it was time to send it off to the House and Chief justice for a hearing they refuse. Knowing trump would be found innocent (due to the obvious lack of bipartisan support we already covered) they decided its best not to have a resolution.
In short they know he will be found innocent and because that would actually HELP trumps credibility, and because their only goal was to hurt his chances of election, instead of letting the hearing be held, they just sit on it.
If the house didnt decide to just sit on it then I'd actually be ok with it, but that isnt the case.
@carcinopithecus I was refering to the people in this thread calling our instance bigots, not you. We and I defended that stance.
Your response then went on to say you would support us being blocked simply for our "debate us" response to these accusations.
You have to keep in mind, no one here cares if we get blocked, if an instance is going to block us because of nonsense like this then we **want** to be blocked obviously. What is concerning more to me, and others, would be the accusation in the first place that most people here made.
As for someone who just doesnt enjoy our content, thats fine, we are STEM professionals and what we like isnt what others like. There is nothing in that statement I'd object to nor was objecting to

@ae I appreciate your comments, no need to explain why you offered them, a difference of opinion is always fine.
A lot of your argument is appeal to majority. Thing is it is a very slim majority, only 52% of americans actually think the impeachment is justified, which is about the same division we see in congress.
Other point is, the division on impeachment is also almost entierly down partisan lines. What party you support, if you support a party (I do not) almost certainly decides what side you are on regarding the impeachment.
The truth is, I am an american citizen who fled the country because of extremism on both the left and the right, a result of extreme polarization in america both among its people and its politicians politically. So trying to glean objective reasoning from a society that has lost all sense of objectivity in all things is, well, lost on me.
Overall your counterargument, while well explained and impassioned, doesnt really make a very convincing argument. Trump **is** a liar and a cheat, I have no doubt he lies and cheats all the time. I also have no doubt there are legitimate reasons to impeach him and legitimate crimes he has commited in general, however the impeachment and the accusations currently in play simply speaking are not examples of valid reasons to impeach someone in my opinon and done more out of desperation from a loosing democratic party that was getting slaughtered in the polls at the time.
@design_RG Not sure how long you have been in the fediverse overall, but you are going to have to get used to this sort of stuff. There is a lot of extremism on both sides, as with any social media. Thankfully you can always silence a whole instance if you need to, though I find all the instances worth silencing already did us the favor anyway :)
