Was there ever a time that referring to women as sweet confectionary was actually effective, "sugar", "baby cakes", "pumpkin pie", "sweet thing", "Honey buns", the list seems endless. I think most people would see these terms as offensive these days. Was that always the case? Why is it offensive now?

I am watching Gargoyles cartoons as I program.. I cant tell if I'm an adult yet or not...

Sort of. Most instances will have different rules for what they allow federation with vs what they allow locally.

We do not have a no-nudity rule, strictly speaking, but we do require it to be CW'ed

Our rules are elaborated on in our about page. But we federate with every instance that protects a users right to disengage (a rather strict definition of harassment). Locally we are more strict though.

I see no reason we should be dictating who our users want to follow or interact with though from other servers.

@QuentinMann You are welcome to post on any subject. I'd imagine people here will have a tendency towards political posts that back up their claims with well researched scientific based studies, I find most scientists are rather annoyed by anything coming out of mainstream media.

But that's more of a suggestion for successful engagement rather than anything we would require as an instance.

Go to the profile of a user from the server you wush to mute (click their username). Then press the three dots next to their profile. It should have an option saying "Hide everything from <server name>"

@evaristus Federated timelines are usually improved by you muting the whole instance. There are only a gew instances that show porn so its easy to block it all in one go.

But generally we dont silence instances at the server level unless they engage in harassment.

Agreed, I feel like on-topic instances are just a hacky way of addressing groups, but as you pointed out it results in a fractured persona.

I wish mastodon would add groups but since they havent treating it more like twitter seems to be the way to go for me.

We dont enforce a specific topic but we are all STEM professionals or just interested in STEM. We talk about loads of offtopic stuff though.
