@linuxsocist I think the only moral political system is anarchism but that it always loses to hierarchical systems, who then calcify and collapse. I believe that social constructs matter, but some are more useful than others. I believe that progress is a social construct and is not useful. I think that humans are clannish and tribal and that will never ever change and denying it will cause worse tragedies than dealing with its problems. I believe that left wing politics are not fixed around ideologies but accelerating change. I believe that right wing ideologies do not truly exist except in monarchies. I believe that society's purpose is keeping order rather than defending rights. I beleve that all people need to feel productive and challenged or they will be unsatisfied. I believe that if you deprive any person of dignity and choice that you can't predict what they'll do next. I believe that societies don't change, they are replaced by different societies. sometimes this is demographic, sometimes it's just birth and death. I believe that whatever leads to consciousness is built into the universe and everything has it to some degree and so there is no clear distinction between things that are self-aware and are not. I believe that simulation is creation. I believe that God is real but is at least seven degrees of simulation above this one. I believe dogs are better than cats. -

The problem with all online communities is sociopathic control freaks. Find and kill them and you last a lot longer. But you always lose to them eventually because it is asymmetric warfare. They can try to infiltrate forever and you have to hold the site together while they use their charisma and psychological tricks to influence and turn users against each other until the community is weak enough for them to own. -

Let me be clear here: certain changes, whether they are or are not good for your users, are "fuck you" changes to the network because they make other servers dependent on your implementation.
There are multiple political intersections going on in this federated network, and one of them is that it's better to refuse to cooperate than be in a situation where you are always reactive to another project's unilateral changes. Whether it's intentional or not it's hostage situation politics and it is not the way free persons should live. -

look just because your mom wasn't a witch, you have to recognize that attacks on witches, while regrettable, are not the same as the systemic, pervasive system of witch attacks that our society is burdened under. Your mom may not have been a witch, but burning her highlighted the problem that there ARE real witches out there or people wouldn't be so scared. Personally I would rather burn witches first and protect my community than let a few people go who decided it would be funny to look like a witch and walk around leaving us in fear all the time. Why did she think she had a right to do that?
