There is widespread consternation and outrage that the Museu Nacional was subject to extreme budget cuts and "reforms" during President Michel Temer's tenure in the week of the impeachment of his political rival, Dilma Rousseff.

The fire could have been prevented had fire hydrants been working on the grounds of the Museu. Unfortunately, the funding for that was cut by the Temer government.

    Capitalism at work 😘

@Prof_Birch Formal knowledge is produced by academics through a scientific process that leads to a final knowledge "product" as a publication or something else. Knowledge coproduction implies involving other actors in this process, like stakeholders, people, policy makers, etc. This is how I understand it but you can find more details in the article.

Some of the GLAMs my laboratory helps don't even know how rich their collections are. For instance, cataloging all items provides us with so much metadata — they think of this as a bureaucratic process, we see that as a way to integrate collections and include Brazil in many initiatives such as #Wikidata.

It's difficult to escape from those "Brazil doesn't fund research properly and I'm disappointed in my country" arguments because honestly, they are completely true.

@DistributedCog I think it is a good place to interact with academic people and with the general public, thanks to the federation with other communities (instances).

You could say twitter was already there for that but it's not the same. Mastodon is designer for us the users and not for the marketing companies. You can feel the freedom here.

@socrates Hi, I suggested this paper because it discusses the concept of knowledge co-production, which is something not well understood in academia yet (or there are several ways to understand it). I think it is worth to read this paper and I am looking forward to other scholars' comments.
