hehe, #bullseye! :angry_trump:
hard to know what you get in the end, as usual. different levels of #uncertaintyi for sure wouldn't trust the image of crazymax, unless he's a good friend. i've seen many popular accs being sold or #hijacked..
if #mozilla would be an official acc at #dockerhub, i'd probably also have sufficient #trust in that image.but... most trustworthy is the sources and a #dockerfile from mozilla's repo. so i need to (automatically) build the image myself

binfalse (martin@mstdn.binfalse.de)'s status on Saturday, 05-Jan-2019 20:35:06 UTC binfalse @jlelse there is an image @ #dockerhub called #mozilla/syncserver, but that is inofficial. not sure who built it and what's in it...
basically, everyone could create an account with the name "mozilla" :)and i'd never use an image by some unknown #3rdparty (like crazymax) for such #sensitive information... who knows what's in the image? and what's in there next week?

and in the end you need to #trust the browser anyway, don't you? i mean, how can you make sure they are not collecting all the data in the background, whether or not you enabled sync..?that's why i'm not using #chrome - they are for sure collecting everything there is to collect...
for #firefox i'm at least not sure ;-)
i'd still recommend to #questionthat individually.

curl also gets a time out on :80but even on :443 the page doesn't work for me... it says " Error fetching updates" (do you need cookies or anything?)

binfalse (martin@mstdn.binfalse.de)'s status on Friday, 04-Jan-2019 22:05:19 UTC binfalse @mase it is supposed to work on #android, but i can't confirm that...
i'm using #orfox and #fossbrowser, which however do not support sync.
there is no pure #firefox in the @fdroidorg repository (and #google #play #store is not an option). just tried #icecat but cannot sign in to sync (probably related to https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?50960) -
binfalse (martin@mstdn.binfalse.de)'s status on Friday, 04-Jan-2019 21:43:36 UTC binfalse @nev but i can't figure out how to point #epiphany to my private #sync server...!?
the settings seem to be #hardcoded..?https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/epiphany/blob/master/lib/ephy-sync-utils.h#L33
do you have any #experience with that?
-
binfalse (martin@mstdn.binfalse.de)'s status on Friday, 04-Jan-2019 21:17:21 UTC binfalse @nev #cool, didn't know that! can it #sync out of the box? does it only sync with other #epiphany instances, or also with #firefox instances?
ah you know what... hold my #beer, i'll give it a try! :doomguy: -
binfalse (martin@mstdn.binfalse.de)'s status on Friday, 04-Jan-2019 21:13:07 UTC binfalse @mase yes, they discontinued #weave (aka #sync 1.0 or 1.1) because it was too #complex and #unreliable...
now it's sync 1.5! ๐จ๐พ
and it seems to be working well. (though, i didn't test everything, yet...)with #floccus you can only sync #bookmarks, can't you?

binfalse (martin@mstdn.binfalse.de)'s status on Friday, 04-Jan-2019 20:56:43 UTC binfalse just setup a private #firefox #sync server. pretty straight forward... :firefox:
1. build a #docker image from https://github.com/mozilla-services/syncserver
2. #deploy it somewhere
3. configure identity.sync.tokenserver.uri in #about:config to point to your new location
4. login at `about:preferences#sync` (you still need a #mozilla account, unless you also run a private account server)
5. sync and check about:sync-log for #error|s -
binfalse (martin@mstdn.binfalse.de)'s status on Friday, 04-Jan-2019 11:13:43 UTC binfalse @fribbledom just used #sync3c to grab all the #35c3 #videos - and it's working #great! #thanks #64G :borglove:

Strange here as well... Did @tom79 change something in #mastalab that transfers significantly more data?
