Nowadays when I talk to people who play games they often have no issue with the "standard" endless in-game purchases (with real money) for items or whatever IF they can also get it for free in the game

And I understand, for their gameplay it maybe doesn't matter but I am truly amazed by how normal it has become that every single game is filled with purchases left and right

Some games feel like cryptocurrency, they only exist to make more and more money regardless of anything else

C'moooooon!

The problem with these endless purchases is the so called "whales"

Over 98% of the players will never spend a dime but the other 2% are paying for the rest of the playerbase.. the addicted ones

Being addicted to such games does not only eat up your literal life time but also has bottomless spending pits designed to get as much out of the player as possible

This is becoming a real issue that seems to go rather unnoticed 😟

Tonight on 00:00 CET+1 mstdn.social will go offline for a planned server migration⚠️

I’m trying my best to make this all happen as fast as possible but I estimate a max of 6 hours of downtime.

Over 4-5 days new server- and media storage bills are coming in for this month

Currently I am still over €428 short this month😿😟

For upcoming weekend I have a server migration planned to scale down the costs by another €200 on the main servers but that will only take effect next month

It's time to address the elephant in the room, or actually Threads

As many of you may know Threads went live in Europe and with that they started testing federation with the Fediverse

At this point there is a choice to make

1. Block Threads on instance level, that will take away the choice for each person

2. Do not block and let people block if they want to(1 search and 2 clicks)

After much consideration and talks I think we need to go with option 2 and let people decide for themselves
