The archive.org is asking for donations. They "store over 99 petabytes of data, including 625 billion webpages, 38 million books and texts, and 14 million audio recordings."

@thenewoil @imgnThe scientific journals charge thousands of dollars from the researcher to publish their work (yeah, they get the material and also charge for it as if it is a nuclear waste), and then also charge every single reader about 30 dollars. On top if that they are responsible for over 50% of spam emails in academia!
Imho academia needs a massive reform on how they do things. The current system is corrupt, inefficient, broken, and in many aspects inhumane and unethical.

Scientific journals get their material for free from researchers, they quality control the material for free by other scientists (a.k.a peer review), and at the end put the material on their website.
