@dosnostalgic at first I thought it was going to be two runners racing Monkey 1 vs Monkey 2, but it sounds like it will be a charity bid war for which gets run. Thats fine too but give me the race.
I’ve been working with Steve Purcell doing the graphic design for this new release of Sam & Max Hit the Road, which goes on sale Jan 6. It’s been a dream project come to life to get to do the packaging for a LucasArts game, and it being Hit the Road to boot. The final release should be pretty packed with detail. I can’t wait for people to actually get it.
@dosnostalgic I’ve thought things are happening the whole time! But yes. This show is definitely the longest possible version of the domino meme, and the ramp up is a far gentler curve.
Better Call Saul might be my favorite TV show of all time? I hope the last few episodes are good. I’ve never seen a slow burn work so well for this long, but they’ve done it so far.
Finally scanned in this old Zak McKracken promotional standee. It used to have a pair of actual nose glasses on it, and a bunch of order forms for your own pairs.
Love learning that The Secret of Monkey Island has a (small) speedrunning scene. Not something I would expect, but of course it does. Learned things about the game I didn't know by watching this and hearing from the people working to push the run time down. Though Monkey Island 1 is a point and click, it's a great combination of tight design *and* lots of shaggy edges, and has just enough "system design" in its puzzles that runners can find cracks to slip between. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0mso2jW6Jc
@dosnostalgic Fascinating to see this 20 years later. Tech- and idea-wise it really looks like a missing link between HL1 and 2, or like an evolutionary branch that was growing off in another direction right then, from that relatively short window between HL1 setting the ground rules for “cinematic first person,” and HL2/Far Cry’s shader- and physics-engine-driven aesthetic that would become the norm basically forever afterwards.
